Leaders approach the summit

The 9th stage of the 1930 Tour de France from Pau to Luchon saw rides cross the mythical Tourmalet in the Pyrenees. André Leducq gained the leaders jersey following the 231km stage which was won by Italian star Alfredo Binda in a time of 9h21’31”. In this photograph the leading breakaway of André Leducq (#38) and Benoit Faure (#122) can be seen approaching the summit of the Col du Tourmalet, lined in the distance by thousands of fans eagerly awaiting their heros.
